On the evening of Thursday, May 1st, during the Applause Awards hosted by the City of St. John's, three groups were nominated for the city's Award for Climate Change Leadership. We were surprised and pleased that Food Producers Forum was given the award, recognizing six years of active engagement with the local community and food producers across our province.

For the board members, volunteers and staff who have led our projects — launching a provincial survey of community food producers, a provincial online conference, and the creation of the new Provincial Food Network — it is very satisfying to receive this award, confirming the value of the work we are doing.

We would be happy to share stories of our challenges and significant success in rebuilding local food capacity in Newfoundland and Labrador. Producing more of our own food is helping us address climate change in three important ways: (1) reducing greenhouse gases from long range shipping, (2) returning more local land to food production, and (3) building local resilience and independence in the face of climate change.

Please help us spread the word about our work. You can contact us for interviews and more information. Details of our projects can be viewed on our brand new, beautiful, just-launched website at www.foodproducersforum.com, an online encyclopedia, helping local communities expand their access to healthy local food!
