The Provincial Food Network Project, led by the Food Producers Forum, has received $199,100 in new funding from the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC). The project was one of 14 selected out of 240 applications from Canada, the U.S., and Mexico, prioritizing community empowerment and resilience to extreme weather.

This funding will support 15 project sites across Newfoundland and Labrador, including indigenous communities, community gardens, family farms, and food education centers. The initiative focuses on building earth-sheltered greenhouses, installing solar panels to reduce fossil fuel dependency, and acquiring farm equipment to improve efficiency.

The funding adds to existing contributions from Memorial University, Mitacs, the provincial government, and federal sources, bringing the total to over $408,000. This investment aims to expand local food production and community education, strengthening food security in both urban and rural areas.
