Provincial Food Network to Become a Co-op

Cormack Meeting, October 2024

At a meeting of site representatives from the Provincial Food Network Project held at Upper Humber Settlement regenerative farm in Cormack in October, 2024, a decision was made to explore the possibility of forming a co-operative to continue the work of the Network into the future.

With support from Kristen Murray of the Newfoundland-Labrador Federation of Co-operatives and consultant Bruce Gilbert, the Steering Committee formed in October has been moving ahead with the paperwork needed to register a Community Service Co-op.

Once those preparations are completed, the registration documents will be submitted for provincial approval. We hope to complete registration soon and have the new Co-op up and running by Fall. Once the Co-op is launched, anyone who grows, gathers or cares about good food will be welcome to join. This will be a democratic structure in which every member has an equal vote.

The role of the new Co-op will be advocacy, education and support for food production and distribution in every community in Newfoundland and Labrador, bringing together farmers, gardeners, hunters, foragers and fishers to create better access to healthy local food.

If you are interested in this process or would like to be a member, let us know by emailing foodproducersforum@gmail.com, and we will keep you in the loop.
