Viviana Ramirez Luna & Tim Walsh in the composting world!

 Viviana Ramirez Luna grew up in Southwest Colombia surrounded by sugar cane crops. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology in Cali, Colombia, and a Master's degree in Environmental Science at Memorial University. She worked on small-scale fisheries, travelling to fishing communities on the Pacific coast of Colombia, one of the most biodiverse regions in the world. Viviana lives in St. John's now and is one of the founders of the Aldershot Community Garden. She is also conducting research on composting in St. John’s, and what needs to be done to create a city-wide program, with support from the Zero Waste Action Team (Social Justice Co-op of NL), the Food Animator team (Food First NL), Stella’s Circle, and the Food Producers Forum.

Tim Walsh grew up in Kingsmans Cove, Fermeuse, on Newfoundland's Southern Shore and graduated in Horticulture from the University of Guelph. He has worked as a Horticulturist and as Nursery Manager at the Memorial University Botanical Garden for 30 years! He manages the greenhouse and nursery and is involved with all levels of propagation and production for the garden's many display beds, along with the many Research Projects at the garden. Tim is a regular on CBC’s Gardening Crosstalk and presents workshops on composting and other skills for gardeners. His interests include new and underutilized flowering plants and shrubs for the Atlantic Canadian garden.
